ChessFlame ("we") makes short daily chess puzzle workouts. This draft explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It will be finalised after legal review.
What we collect
- Guest device ID. A random identifier stored on your device (local storage and a first-party cookie) so you can play without an account and keep your progress when you sign up.
- Account details. If you create an account: your email address or the identifier from Sign in with Apple / Google, a display name, and your settings.
- Training data. Puzzles you attempt, whether you solved them, time taken, hints used — used to pick puzzles at the right level and to calculate your puzzle rating.
- Invites and challenges. When you open an invite or challenge link we record that the link was opened (with your device ID) so the inviter can receive their bonus puzzles. We set a first-party attribution cookie for 30 days.
- Product analytics. Basic usage events (for example "challenge opened", "challenge completed") to understand what works.
What we never do
- We never upload your contacts or message anyone on your behalf. Sharing only happens when you choose to share.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Fraud prevention
To keep the referral bonus fair we use signals such as device identifiers, coarse network information and email domain to detect abuse.
Your choices
You can export or delete your data from Settings → Privacy & data in the app. Deleting your account removes your personal information; some records may be kept in anonymised form where required by law.
Puzzle sources
Many puzzles come from the Lichess puzzle database, released under CC0 (public domain). We credit "Source: Lichess" in puzzle details. Other positions are authored by ChessFlame.
